Final for CE

Thesis: This semester in Career Exploration, it helped reinforced my decision to major in a science field, and  also helped me to pursue a career in the field of dentistry through the assignments throughout the class and it also helped me how to stay motivated and not procrastinate in college.

ESTP- Extraverted Sensing Thinking PERCEIVING (1)

ESTP are considered people who get the job done right away. They love to analyze evidence and quickly find a solution to the problem, they like to get things over with and move on, some ESTP personality types like to pick the easy route out so they are done quicker. This assignment on missouriconnections.org
really did understand what type of person I am. As I was reading it, it really just  sounded more and more like me. Not all ESTP people are lazy though, some just love to "fix" problems that people put in front of them. Like this morning in my Lab class at the career center that I TA for, Mrs. Roberson needed assistance with the broken printer. So she let me figure it out. So I began analyzing the instructions and just pushed some buttons and it was fine, This relates to ESTP personality types because I had to analyze a situation and fix it for my teacher.
ESTP people also pick up on body language and little cues people do that most people dont notice. Like my friend Ashley, I met her this year and yet i can tell when she is sad and cranky or when she is happy. Shes very happy all the time and alot of people assume she doesnt have bad days cause she always brightens everyone's day. But the reason why were so close now after 1 year is because i can read her very well and i can comfort her when she needs it.
ESTP personality is a perfect fit in the science field because it truly is the antithesis of what science is. You have to be able to analyze new data everyday and you have to create new ways of doing things because not alot is discovered in science and its ever changing so you have to be a problem solver and be able to "do" or figure out a way to do an experiment. Thats why i love science because its never a straight line like people assume, you have to be able to create new ideas and change some things if you come up with a better way to do it.

Holland Code Investigative and Realistic (2)

People who are investigative like to use more ideas and thinking more than doing manual labor. They usually are more creative because they have to problem solve in many different ways and if a practical way doesnt work, then they have to be creative and figure a way to fix a problem. Like when I was job shadowing Dr.Robert Conway, we were doing rounds and one of the patients medicine wasnt doing its job so he had to choose whether to  increase the does of medication or completely switch to a new type of medication. It was an medication that you insert through an IV so the results were suppose to be quick since its inserted directly into you. So he increased the dosage ( I didnt know what exactly he was doing because of patient confidentially) but we checked on her in an hour and the medication was working! However if the medication didnt work, I asked, what would he have done? He said he would analyze her history with medication and he charts to see if she was allergic to anything and then calculate her dosage based on her height, weight, and age. and make a decision to place her on other medication.
Realistic people are more straight forward and very typical type of people and they like having instructions. they are considered more of a follower than a leader. At first i didnt think this was very like me, however, i had to think of patient care in a hospital when i was job shadowing. A lot of patients are alike one of Dr. Conway's nurses said. Because he works with patients with minor needs, the family care isn't hard to deal with because they dont have to deal with someone whose dying or what not, he mainly dealt with workers compensation patients and younger adults. The nurse was like, "we dont have to deal with many families who are sad or mad because most patients are in and out in less than a day." however she said, theres some patients families who are very sensitive and dont want their family member in the hospital and then everyone around them (the doctors and nurses) have to adapt to their situation which they do training before they get the job so its very straight forward for them and not too difficult for them.
My Realistic side of my code helped me alot in deciding to do Dental because its a profession where its very straight forward and you do the same thing to most patients however, when you have to do crownings or fillers, thats where my investigative side comes in because you have to do it for different teeth. every time. so dentistry is a great choice for me to do in my profession because it is a balanced blend of both my type of worker i am.

Life Style Budget (3)

Based on my lifestyle budget I think I would have when I am 26, I would have to make over $155,000, based on the average dentist salary, my lifestyle can be sustain and have a lot of money left over. Dentist in missouri make around $163,000 so based on the  salary part of dentistry, i will be set with money left over
Life Style Budget assignment taught me that i have an extremely high standard of living which is kind of scary at first when i am in college. however, I'm very happy that dentristry salary's have steadily inclined in the past ten years based on "salary.com". so that kind of makes the whole thing of being a dentist even better cause I'll be making money and love what i do because i know im intellectually smart to succeed in the field of science and dentistry.

Procrastination Assignment (Micheal) (4)

On of the first assignments we did was a procrastination assignment about micheal. He was a procrastinator and we needed to help him to set his priorities straight!
Micheal pulled all nighters in high school so on the weekends he could go out with his friends and this was my respond to him about "thinking small"
I personally love to take sections, like from chapters, from each class I have to do. And then I usually go from one class to another and rotate from each other. That makes me more aware personally and helps me stay away because it makes me think about different subjects and then I get done faster. This will help micheal stay awake and finish faster so he doesn’t have to pull an all nighter. And go out with friends on the weekends too.
Also Micheal didnt set his priorities straight, he chose friends over school work even though he was taking AP classes. and this was my response for "priorities"
Micheal just  needs to think to himself, are going to the movies with friends going to make you successful in the future or is working hard in highschool going to. My parents always told me that if you try at the beginning, you wont have to think about it later in life, this helps me think that if I try hard in school, I can become a professor and not be at a dead end job working 40 hour weeks at a diner or fast food restaurant. I would somewhat blame Micheals parents more for letting him go out without finishing his homework. Cause parents play a lot in a childs work ethic
This assignment really helped me to know what not to do when i go off to college. I need to stay motivated because in the assignment it said "its always easier to keep a 4.0, then to have to climb up to it" which its true because if you just try at the begining, you wont struggle to get back up later which alot of kids drop out of college. i just know that ill try to take the concepts from this assignment and apply that when i go off to college and even dentistry school and stay motivated throughout the process.

           Transferable skills (5)

In the Transferable skills assignment we had to list the specific transferable skills that you gained in each activity with an explanation of how those transferable skills were developed.

I chose Jiffy Lube where i am a technician and Boone hospital because i volunteer there and i thought that would be two completely different topics i can talk about.

Jiffy Lube Technician
Task: Greet consumers and Checking their under hood fluids.
Transferable Skills: Teamwork, being able to communicate to get cars in and out as fast as possible and doing it right. Technical skills, being able to know the mechanics of each car and able to change whatever the car needs. Problem solving, When a car has weird nosies, you need to be able to identify them and let the customer know what is wrong.

Boone Hospital Volunteer
Task: handing out newspapers and delivering items to patients room while providing hospitality
Transferable skills: Communication and Intrapersonal  skills- Being able to comfort families of paients and comforting people around the hospital as needed, also being able  to support them and make their day better with great people skills. Just having  a calming Demeter around people who are sometimes not in the best situation

Both of these jobs i do have the same characteristics of what it takes to be a well off dentist who is successful. Jiffy lube taught me to work well with others also it taught me hands on skill with heavy machinery which translate to me pursuing my career in dentistry because i will have the technical skills to handle myself when i have a job as a dentist. Boone hospital taught me communication and empathy towards other which is impertinent to dentistry because you have to be aware if your patient is scared of things going in their mouth or whatever issue they may have.

Direct response to prompt (6)

I think the skills i have learned really taught me that i need to be around people and be more sociable yet have a balance of problem solving. Like with my holland code project.  where i was a mix of problem solving and a straight forward thinking mind set. Dentistry is a great opertunity for that because its very straight forward and you do the same thing to most patients however, when you have to do crownings or fillers, thats where my investigative side comes in because you have to do it for different teeth. every time.
Also i have learned to stay motivated and to learn  young rather than later like in the procrastination project with micheal. i learned to study in small steps and not to cram an all nighter for AP test.
In addition i learned in this course that i already poses skills need to be a dentist Jiffy lube taught me to work well with others also it taught me hands on skill with heavy machinery which translate to me pursuing my career in dentistry because i will have the technical skills to handle myself when i have a job as a dentist. Boone hospital taught me communication and empathy towards other which is impertinent to dentistry because you have to be aware if your patient is scared of things going in their mouth or whatever issue they may have.

THIS CLASS WAS FUN! THANKS MRS. REED!!!!
